Fiction/Non-Fiction?
The material is nonfiction, but the context is fiction.
Review:
The illustrations are lovely. The prose is gentle and rhythmic. It’s a fun and engaging way to talk about verbs, until the very end of the book. At that point, I think it goes a little too in-depth. Which I can’t decide if I like or not! On the one hand, it adds longevity to the usability of the book. You can pull it for learning about verbs early on, and again later when you’re learning more complex applications. But, on the other hand, it feels way too complex for younger readers. But, overall, I love her style, and we’ll keep using this one!
Kid Thoughts:
They like the pictures the best and definitely understood the verbs in the first part of the book, but gave me looks of puzzlement at the end. This particularly seemed to help “state of being” verbs click well into place.
