Review:
We teach phonics, not sight words, so I completely disagree that it’s a “level 1” reader. Lou Bae can read it independently and Evie needs some help, but it isn’t fully decodable. So, in my opinion, this isn’t really a first reader.
As for as a read aloud, it’s fine. Nothing to write home about. It doesn’t have that classic, silly, too literal feel of the original Amelia Bedelia books. These new ones seem to more be capitalizing on the brand-loyalty of the originals. It’s a short, light read, but nothing fantastic or amazing. Meh.
Kid Thoughts:
The kids enjoy this one, but it isn’t a favorite. Lou Bae has read it a few times for fun, but it isn’t one they would miss if it found its way into the donation box.
Content Considerations:
Not really. Though I know some families don’t like any glorification of public school. This is a bake sale for a school and involves the teacher. Otherwise, no.

Worth the Shelf Space?
I don’t think so.
